The Feldenkrais Method®

The Feldenkrais Method® is a form of somatic education that uses gentle movement and directed attention to improve movement and enhance human functioning. Through this Method, you can increase your ease and range of motion, improve your flexibility and coordination, and rediscover your innate capacity for graceful, efficient movement. These improvements will often generalize to enhance functioning in other aspects of your life.

The Feldenkrais Method is based on principles of physics, biomechanics and an empirical understanding of learning and human development. By expanding the self-image through movement sequences that bring attention to the parts of the self that are out of awareness, the Method enables you to include more of yourself in your activities of daily living. Become more aware of your habitual neuromuscular patterns and rigidities and expand options for new ways of moving. By increasing sensitivity, the Feldenkrais Method assists you to live your life more fully, efficiently and comfortably.

Mindfulness

A quality or state of being conscious or aware by focusing on the present moment. Accepting without judgment one’s feelings, emotions and sensations without a sense or “right” or “wrong”. Being mindful of the wisdom of the body can lead to heightened states of calm and ease as well as increased pleasure in activities of daily life. Mindfulness can lead to more empathy, compassion, health and happiness.

Interactive Guided Imagery

Using imagery has long been recognized as an important component of healing in many different modalities, whether physical or psychological. Learning to use imagery in an interactive manner can facilitate and enhance awareness on cognitive and somatic levels. Interactive guided imagery can teach clients how to interact with their own unique insights and apply them to create profound and lasting changes. Imagery work can have a direct effect on physical organization and function as well as awareness.

Cranio Sacral Therapy (CST)

Cranio Sacral Therapy (CST) was pioneered and developed by osteopathic physician John E. Upledger following extensive scientific studies from 1975 to 1983 at Michigan State University, where he served as a clinical researcher and Professor of Biomechanics.

CST is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of a physiological body system called the craniosacral system – comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord.

Using a soft touch generally no greater than 5 grams, or about the weight of a nickel, practitioners release restrictions in the craniosacral system to improve the functioning of the central nervous system.

By complementing the body’s natural healing processes, CST is increasingly used as a preventive health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and is effective for a wide range of problems associated with pain and dysfunction.
