Musings on wellness from Donna Simmons

A supermoon is a full moon…that nearly coincides with perigee – the closest that the Moon comes to the Earth in its elliptic orbit – resulting in a slightly larger-than-usual apparent size of the lunar disk as viewed from earth. -Wikipedia

Dear Friends and Clients,

Moon phases and rarer lunar events (a supermoon coinciding with a lunar eclipse, for example) were regarded as omens by our ancestors, perhaps with some justification. Subtle shifts in gravitational pull associated with the moon (where tides originate) may have a greater influence on the flora and fauna of the earth than we know.
Another expression of our desire to understand the nature of “interconnected systems” would be the work of Theo Jansen, a Dutch innovator in the field of wind-driven “creatures”. I highly recommend learning more about his work. You can start here or at www.strandbeest.com

As mystifying as Mr. Jansen’s creatures are, our musculoskeletal systems are many orders of magnitude more complex. Couple that complexity with the role that the nervous system and conscious and unconscious (autonomic) neural activity plays in the body’s functionality, and you begin to appreciate the need for a nuanced approach to interventions in your physical organization. My approach to this begins with the Feldenkrais Method and includes a variety of other modalities that I have found to be effective in improving my and my clients’ quality of life.

Beginning June 1, 2021, I am expanding my office hours to Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 201 Miller in Mill Valley, California. I and the other practitioners at 201 Miller continue to observe CDC guidelines vis-à-vis PPE, etc. even though we are all vaccinated. I hope to see you there soon. Until then stay healthy, enjoy the “Strandbeest” and keep on moving!

Namaste,
Donna
